IHG Hotels & Resorts traces its roots to 1946, when Pan American Airways founder Juan Trippe launched the InterContinental brand, and to 1952, when Kemmons Wilson opened the first Holiday Inn in Memphis, Tennessee. Bass PLC, later renamed InterContinental Hotels Group, brought these and other brands together over subsequent decades.
