Starwood

Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide grew into one of the leading hotel and leisure companies in the world, with more than 1,100 properties in nearly 100 countries and some 171,000 employees at its owned and managed properties. The company operated as a fully integrated owner, operator and franchisor of hotels, resorts and residences.
A family of lifestyle brands
Starwood's portfolio brought together nine distinct lifestyle hospitality brands, each with its own identity and guest promise. The collection included:
- St. Regis, The Luxury Collection and W Hotels at the top end of the market
- Westin Hotels & Resorts and Le Méridien for premium travel
- Sheraton Hotels & Resorts, one of the industry's most recognised names
- Four Points, Aloft and Element serving a broader range of travellers
A leading loyalty programme
Starwood Preferred Guest was long regarded as one of the industry's leading loyalty programmes, allowing members to earn and redeem points for stays, upgrades and flights with no blackout dates. The company also operated Starwood Vacation Ownership, providing villa style resort experiences.
Shared promises
Starwood's culture was guided by a set of shared values it called promises: going the extra step, playing as a team, and doing the right thing. Following its acquisition, these brands and much of this culture continue today within Marriott International's global portfolio.
Culture
- Go the Extra Step: building lasting connections and loyalty through everyday actions
- Play as a Team: working globally and across every team in the company
- Do the Right Thing: using good judgment and respecting communities, colleagues and partners
- Nine lifestyle brands, one culture: a shared set of promises across the entire portfolio
Human Resources
