The Social Hub was founded in Amsterdam in 2012 by Scottish-Dutch entrepreneur Charlie MacGregor, initially under the name The Student Hotel. MacGregor's idea was to offer students better quality housing than the market provided, combined with the amenities and service of a hotel.

A hybrid hospitality concept

The concept blends short and long-stay accommodation with student housing, coworking spaces and public amenities such as restaurants and bars, all under one roof. The first Dutch locations opened in Rotterdam and The Hague, followed by a 707-room Amsterdam property that was, at the time, the largest hotel in the Benelux.

Rebranded and expanded across Europe

In 2022 the company rebranded from The Student Hotel to The Social Hub, reflecting its growth into a wider hybrid hospitality concept. The Social Hub now operates more than twenty properties across cities in the Netherlands, Spain, Italy, France, Germany, Austria and the United Kingdom.
