Crowne Plaza

Crowne Plaza was established in 1983 as an upscale sister brand to Holiday Inn, with its first hotel opening that year in Rockville, Maryland. In 1988, Bass PLC, the company that would later become InterContinental Hotels Group, acquired the Holiday Corporation, and in 1994 the brand was renamed Crowne Plaza Hotels.
Built for business, leisure and everything between
Crowne Plaza caters to business, leisure and blended travel, with hotels typically located in city centres, resorts, coastal towns or near major airports. The brand opened its first European property in Madeira, Portugal, in 1999, and has continued expanding across the continent ever since.
