Stage Entertainment

Stage Entertainment was founded in 1998 in Amsterdam by Dutch entrepreneur Joop van den Ende, splitting off from the live entertainment division of Endemol, the television production company he had co-founded. Van den Ende's theatrical roots stretch back to 1968, when he opened his first independent production agency, Spotlight.

From plays to musical theatre

Van den Ende's move into musical theatre began at the end of the 1980s, with his first attempt at the genre, Barnum, in 1988. His 1991 Dutch production of Les Misérables established him as the foremost musical theatre producer in the Netherlands and marked the beginning of a new era for the genre in the country. In 2000, he sold Endemol in order to focus entirely on theatre.

Europe's largest live entertainment company

Stage Entertainment has since grown into Europe's largest live entertainment company, producing some of the best known titles in musical theatre. Its portfolio includes:

Owned theatres, original content

The company both owns and operates its own theatres and creates original content in house, alongside staging productions developed with international partners, drawing roughly seven million visitors a year across its venues.

Part of Advance Publications

Acquired by Advance Publications in 2018, Stage Entertainment continues to operate independently with around 2,000 employees, extending its reach through licensing agreements and international tours well beyond Europe.
