Buitenplaats Vaeshartelt

Buitenplaats Vaeshartelt is a castle estate on the edge of Maastricht, with a history that can be traced back to the tenth century. The name Vaeshartelt itself dates from 1381, when the land passed to Servaes van Mulcken. In the centuries that followed, the estate was at various times linked to the Dutch royal family, including King Willem II, and to the industrialist Petrus Regout.

From estate to hotel

The current L-shaped main building dates from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. In 1994 it was restored and extended with two contemporary wings, giving the estate its 84 hotel rooms and conference facilities. The castle is a listed national monument and forms part of the wider Buitengoed Geul & Maas.

A 23-hectare park

The estate is set within 23 hectares of parkland, including a vineyard, a kitchen garden, ponds and orchards, open to guests for walks between meetings or stays. Regional and seasonal dishes, many grown within the estate itself, are served in the on-site restaurant.
