Hotel Nobel

Hotel Nobel has welcomed guests in the village of Ballum on the Wadden island of Ameland since 1902, making it one of the oldest family businesses in Dutch hospitality. For four generations, the Nobel family has stood ready day and night for their guests, with hospitality running through their blood.

The story of the Nobeltje

The hotel's famous house liqueur, the Nobeltje, was born in the bitterly cold winter of 1902. After a sledge race in nearby Holwerd left competitors with no strong drink left for the journey home, great-grandfather Willem Barend Nobel brewed a warming drink on the spot, a family recipe that remains a closely guarded secret to this day.

While the atmosphere of old Ballum is still very much present, Hotel Nobel has moved with the times. The property today combines its historic character with contemporary comfort, including:
