Logo of client Soho House

Soho House began in 1995, when restaurateur Nick Jones opened a private members' club above his own restaurant, Café Boheme, at 40 Greek Street in London's Soho district. Frustrated by the formality of traditional gentlemen's clubs, Jones built a space around one simple rule: no suits. The idea was to give people working in film, media and the arts somewhere relaxed to meet, away from the stiffness of old money institutions and hereditary privilege.

From one townhouse to a global collective

What started as a single doorway above a brasserie has grown into a worldwide network of Houses. Babington House, the first property with bedrooms, opened in Somerset in 1998. Soho House crossed the Atlantic in 2003 with its New York location, and reached continental Europe in 2010 with the opening of Soho House Berlin. The group now operates dozens of Houses across cities including London, New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, Istanbul and Mumbai, serving several hundred thousand members worldwide.

Built on culture, not capital

From the beginning, membership at Soho House has been earned through creative merit rather than wealth or status. Applicants are vetted for their work in fields such as film, art, fashion, music and media, and the club has never shied away from turning away prospective members who do not fit that culture, regardless of their financial means. It is this consistent focus on creativity over capital that has kept the brand distinct within the wider hospitality and private members' club industry.

A home, not a hotel

Each House is designed around the same idea: comfortable, characterful spaces that feel like an extension of home rather than a conventional hotel or club. Interiors are eclectic and lived in, mixing vintage furniture with contemporary art from a collection of more than eight thousand curated works. Every House typically offers a combination of the following:

  • Restaurants, bars and screening rooms
  • Workspaces and meeting rooms for members
  • Spas, gyms and rooftop pools
  • Bedrooms for members travelling between Houses

Part of Membership Collective Group

Soho House operates today as the flagship brand of Membership Collective Group, alongside sister concepts such as Soho Works and Soho Home. The company continues to expand at a steady pace, opening several new Houses each year while carefully protecting the intimacy and creative focus that defined the very first club above Café Boheme thirty years ago.

Culture

  • Creativity over capital: members are chosen for their work, not their wealth
  • No suits: a deliberately relaxed, informal house style since day one
  • Community first: every House is designed as a home for members, not a transactional venue
  • Global family, local character: each House reflects its own city while sharing the same relaxed ethos

Human Resources

At Soho House, our people are the culture. We look for individuals who are genuinely passionate about hospitality, creativity and community, and who bring warmth and personality to every interaction with our members.

  • A relaxed, informal working culture across every House
  • Real opportunities to grow within a fast expanding global group
  • A team that reflects the creative, diverse community we serve
